Job Description

GSL Education are seeking to appoint a committed and organised Science Technician to work at an Ofsted graded Good Secondary School in York. The position is 32.5 hours per week, with the flexibility to work across 4 or 5 days per week. This is a great opportunity to take on a temporary contract for a term, or for any candidates looking for a permanent contract.
The successful candidate will be involved in preparing and setting up equipment for science lessons, providing technical support to teachers and pupils, and any other duties outlined by the Science department.

As a Science Technician, you will:

• Assist in research and development.
• Set-up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment.
• Conduct laboratory procedures.
• Monitor experiments and make observations.
• Record and calculate results and work out conclusions.
• Compile and interpret data and devise solutions to science experiments.
• Keep detailed logs of tests and trials.
• Prepare materials for science lessons.
• Apply knowledge and techniques gained from research.
• Assist in practical classes.
• Take an active part in laboratory demonstrations.

To be considered for this role, it is essential that you:

• Are experienced as a Science Technician, or are a Science Graduate with relevant skills.
• Have experience working or volunteering in a school laboratory setting.
• Competent IT knowledge, namely Microsoft Office.
• Have an awareness of Health and Safety standards and policies in Schools and educational settings.
• Be able to follow written procedures and record information accurately.
• Be organised and be able to meet agreed deadlines.
