About us The Bartlett School of Architecture (BSA) is a world-leading place to study, teach and research architecture. The school is a key part of UCL, a top-world-ranking university, where architecture has been taught for over 175 years. About the role We are excited to be looking for someone to take this leadership role within the Bartlett School of Architecture. The post holder will lead a team of more than 30 staff who provide the support services to our community. This involves pastoral care and career support as well as helping with decision making aligned to the strategic vision. The School Manager reports directly to the Director and will be responsible for prioritisation of projects and the day to day running of the school support services. The role holder will receive career support from the Faculty Director of Operations.
Another focus for this work will be on running a large and complex budget that is part of a devolved budget within a complex organisation. This work is delivered in a close working relationship with strong business partnering support from UCL\xe2\x80\x99s Finance team. The role holder will also help to implement and lead a comprehensive culture change initiative across the school led by the Director. This will be delivered in a close working relationship with our Human Resources business partners.

The candidate will need to pass a pre-interview test set to measure budgeting skills as the job includes both strategic budgeting and forecasting work. You will be supported in this work by a strong business partnering team who will share their knowledge of UCL\xe2\x80\x99s broader institutional context. The School Manager role at the Bartlett School of Architecture has a broad remit, requiring the role holder to intervene in a facilities crisis one day, and act as translator across various teams and stakeholders the next. Therefore, being able to work collaboratively with people with different priorities is important.
On top of the financial skills involved in running a large and complex budget, candidates will also need to appreciate the power dynamics around being a budget decisionmaker. The BSA School Manager must promote budgetary literacy and transparency, balancing people\xe2\x80\x99s expectations while facilitating strategic priorities within the school.
