Job Description

We are seeking an experienced qualified professional who can provide strong leadership and knowledge in relation to safeguarding which develops a culture that safeguards children and adults at risk.



The post holder will be responsible for delivering the safeguarding strategic priorities and lead a team providing Trust wide specialist advice and support service, regarding safeguarding and vulnerability issues, as well as providing specialist health advice across partner agencies.



The post holder will be expected to provide clinical expertise and knowledge, demonstrating a sound understanding of the issues related to Safeguarding and Child Protection procedures, Childrens Act (2004), Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the Mental Capacity Act (MCA, 2005) Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS) and Liberty Protection Safeguards (LPS) when implemented, Domestic Abuse Act (2021), Care Act (2014) and the NHS Sexual Safety Charter.



The post holder will support and deputise for the Head of Safeguarding and Vulnerabilities in all activities necessary to ensure that the Trust meets its responsibilities to safeguard /protect adults, children, and young people. To ensure that the Trust maintains optimum standards to meet all safeguarding contractual and statutory responsibilities.



Work autonomously to meet the needs of the Trust, with significant freedom to act and authority to carryout duties on behalf of the Trust in relation to safeguarding.



Monitor safeguarding activity around the Trust. This data will be used to inform reports to the Trusts committees/boards and the work of partner agencies.



Work in close liaison with designated professionals and named professionals across the health economy to develop systems for communication.



Ensure any recommendations from specific case/practice reviews conducted either locally or nationally are implemented across the trust.



Provide and develop collaborative interagency working on all issues relating to child protection.



Provide specialist advice, guidance and support to the Trust's Safeguarding Committee in relation to statutory requirements/legislation.



Support staff in the preparation of statements and other reports relating to legal proceedings in child protection matters as required and support the development of court skills.

Act as expert resource for professionals at all levels and be able to professionally challenge colleagues around safeguarding practice and decision making here this is not in line with local and national guidance, standards, or best practice.

To ensure, in partnership with Head of Safeguarding and Named Doctor, responsible for the interpretation of statute and national, regional, and local policy, and for leading the development, implementation and monitoring of Trust safeguarding strategy, policy and procedures and processes in line with local safeguarding boards children and adults.

Contribute to the Trusts Safeguarding Annual Report and Section 11 Audit

Review, deliver and embed Trust safeguarding supervision

Lead in providing practitioners day to day knowledge resource, and the expert advice in relation to safeguarding of children and young people and adults to meet the local and national priorities.

Providing a visible presence in relation to safeguarding practice "walks the floor", for staff/patients.

Day to day line management responsibility for members of the safeguarding team and Vulnerabilities team which includes Safeguarding Nurse, Learning Disabilities Nurse, Dementia /MH Practitioner, Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Advocate and Safeguarding Administrator.

Disseminate lesson learnt/recommendations from child safeguarding practice reviews/case management reviews /serious incidents and advise on the implementation of recommendations.

Work alongside the head of safeguarding to set annual audits for the safeguarding and vulnerabilities team.

To ensure the highest standards of safeguarding practice are delivered to children & adults at risk in partnership with all members of the internal and external multi-disciplinary team, for example quality assurance of Mental Capacity Assessments and Deprivation of Liberty Applications

Contribute to the identification and management of organisational risk by providing expert advice to the organisation on the impacts of safeguarding legislation, policy, and statutory guidance and on the recommendations of national Child Safeguarding Practice Reviews, Domestic Homicide Reviews, Safeguarding Adult Reviews and other Thematic Learning.

The development and delivery of the Trust's Safeguarding Committee agenda and work-plans.

Deputise for the Trust's safeguarding committee in the absence of the Head of Safeguarding.
