Risk And Compliance Manager

Tiverton, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Scrub Daddy UK is the distributor of the Scrub Daddy brand in the UK and EU. We currently distribute to most major national retailers and wholesalers in the UK and have an ever growing presence in Europe. As we expand across European markets, we are seeking a proactive and detail-driven Risk & Compliance Manager to ensure our products and their associated packaging meet all applicable regulations and standards. This is a office based role, attendance at this location is required. Tiverton, Devon.

The Role

The Risk & Compliance Manager will act as the primary liaison with our external compliance consultants and lead the strategic packaging review process across multiple EU markets. You will also be the key point of contact for all matters relating to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) compliance and packaging standards across the UK and EU. This role is critical in supporting both product and packaging compliance, ensuring environmental labelling accuracy, validating claims and translations, and aligning with international recycling mark requirements.

Internal Compliance & Risk Management

Collaborate with Product Development, Marketing, and Supply Chain to integrate compliance considerations into product lifecycle. Develop and maintain compliance checklists, protocols, and SOPs. Provide internal training on regulatory requirements and best practices.

Strategic Packaging Review

Lead a cross-functional initiative to review and optimize packaging compliance strategies across EU zones. Identify opportunities for packaging innovation aligned with compliance and sustainability goals. Work closely with Inventory, Finance, Marketing, and Sales teams to optimize packaging stock levels and structures, balancing the cost-benefit trade-offs between granular geo-specific packaging versus broader zonal packaging strategies.

Packaging & Labelling Compliance

Validate all packaging copy, claims, and design against relevant UK and EU legal standards. Oversee translation accuracy of claims and product descriptions into local languages. Review and approve the use of recycling and environmental labels to ensure alignment with local laws in each EU country. Monitor legislative updates regarding sustainable packaging and initiate changes as required. Liaise closely with the Head of Legal in the US to ensure all packaging updates resulting from legal or regulatory changes are accurately implemented across markets.

EPR Compliance

Manage and ensure timely submission of all UK and EU Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reporting requirements. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EPR regulations and ensure company compliance across jurisdictions. Strategically evaluate whether EPR submissions should be managed in-house or via external providers, based on cost-effectiveness, resource capacity, and regulatory complexity. Vet and monitor external compliance service providers under value-for-money principles. Identify opportunities to bring EPR compliance processes in-house where it is financially and operationally advantageous.

External Liaison

Coordinate and manage relationships with third-party compliance consultants and industry bodies. Represent Scrub Daddy in compliance forums, regulatory meetings, or trade associations as needed. Manage increasingly complex and detailed customer onboarding requirements related to packaging compliance, labour market compliance, and product information compliance.

Product Information Management (PIM)

Lead the strategic planning and implementation of a Product Information Management (PIM) system to centralize and maintain all product data for legislative reporting and compliance tracking. Evaluate and compare a range of potential PIM providers, including analysis of service offerings, scalability, and integration capabilities. Compare external solutions against existing internal tools to determine incremental vs transformational value. Assess buy-versus-build options, including consideration of generic, configurable platforms vs bespoke, company-specific solutions. Ensure compatibility and integration with existing digital sales channels and routes to market. Prioritize solutions that can adapt and scale with increasingly complex EU legislative requirements.

Documentation & Audit

Ensure all compliance records, certificates, and reports are properly maintained and audit-ready. Support internal and external audits related to product compliance.

About You

Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Regulatory Affairs, Environmental Science, or a related field that would illustrate an interest/competence in attention to detail and compliance matters. Highly organised and detail-oriented with the ability to maintain a holistic, strategic view across compliance functions. Proven ability to liaise with international stakeholders, including legal teams. Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Strong sense of ownership and accountability. Interest in sustainability initiatives and reporting frameworks.

Desirable Qualities

Experience in a compliance role within a consumer goods or FMCG company. Experience with multilingual packaging and international recycling label standards. Knowledge of UK and EU EPR regulations and packaging legislation. Fluency in an additional European language. Experience with Product Information Management (PIM) systems. Experience working with external compliance platforms or software.
