As an Assistant Operations Manager for the Killingworth Castle pub, dining rooms and accommodation, your role would involve a mix of hands-on management and strategic oversight to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.
The following is an outline of key responsibilities and areas you'd be involved in and not exhaustive. The Company may amend your duties either on a temporary or permanent basis. You will be notified of any permanent change in writing. In addition to your normal duties, you may be required to undertake additional or other duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business.
Guest Services
Hospitality: Oversee guest check-ins and ensure high-quality customer service. Resolve any issues related to room bookings or the dining experience promptly and professionally.
Feedback Management: Address guest feedback, whether in person, online reviews, or surveys, and implement improvements based on common concerns.
Operations & Staff Management
Team Leadership: Help operations manage and schedule staff in all FOH areas i.e bar, cleaning & housekeeping, front of house. Ensure clear communication and that all staff are well-trained.
Training & Development: Help in onboarding new hires, providing training, and coaching staff to meet the pub's high standards of service.
Operationalational Efficiency: Assist the Operations Manager in optimizing workflows, inventory management, and coordinating between departments for smooth operation.
Food & Beverage Management
Welcoming Guests: Greet customers as they arrive at their assigned tables, ensuring they feel welcomed and valued.
Taking Orders: Accurately take food and drink orders, offering suggestions or explanations about the menu when required.
Serving Food & Beverage: Serve food and drinks in a precise and elegant manner, making sure to follow the restaurant's standards.
Table Maintenance: Ensure that tables are properly set before the guests arrive and are maintained throughout the meal (e.g., clearing empty plates, refilling drinks, and ensuring guests' needs are met without intrusion).
Work closely with junior servers and runners to ensure efficient service. Delegate tasks such as serving drinks, bread, or clearing.
Coordination with Kitchen: Liaise with the kitchen staff and communicate special requests or dietary restrictions to ensure guest satisfaction.
Quality Control
Attention to Detail: Ensure that food is served at the correct temperature, that presentation is flawless, and that guests' needs are anticipated and met.
Problem-Solving: Handle any issues or complaints from customers, ensuring they are resolved professionally and quickly.
Upselling and Menu Knowledge
In-Depth Knowledge of Menu: Have a thorough understanding of the menu, including ingredients, preparation methods, and beverage pairings (especially wine). Be ready to make recommendations and upsell dishes or drinks.
Wine & Beverage Service: Have expertise in wines, recommending and serving appropriate wines or drinks to accompany meals.
Training and Development
Mentoring Junior Staff: Train and guide junior members of the team, helping them develop their service skills and product knowledge.
Ensuring Standards: Maintain the high standards of the establishment, ensuring that all staff in the section deliver service at the required level.
Preparation and Closing Duties
Set-Up: Before service, ensure that the dining area is prepared, including table settings, cleanliness, and readiness of any special items like cutlery or glassware. POS system is adjusted to the days menu.
End of Service: Assist with clearing tables, resetting for the next service, approving the days schedule and handling service reports.
Reservations & Room Management
Room Presentation: Ensure rooms are cleaned, maintained, and prepared to the AA five gold star standard, paying close attention to detail and guest satisfaction.
Booking Management: Work with management and the owners to maximize occupancy and deal with any booking issues or special guest requests.
