This role is an opportunity to be a steady and supportive presence during key periods, particularly across weekends, promoting wellbeing, safety and personal growth for young people facing complex challenges.
Please note:
This position primarily involves weekend work, including night shifts, to meet the needs of our young people.
Key Responsibilities
As a Residential Youth Support Worker, your duties will include:
Conducting regular checks throughout the night to ensure residents' safety and wellbeing.
Delivering, documenting and recording of key work sessions with the young people.
Ensuring all young people return to the placement by their curfew time.
Reporting and recording a young person who is missing or absent without authorisation.
Completing thorough health and safety inspections in and around the property.
Responding calmly and appropriately to emergencies or incidents during the night, reporting to senior management and documenting all events.
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date logs of incidents, observations and contact with young people.
Building positive relationships with residents to promote emotional support, growth and independence.
Communicating effectively with day staff to ensure smooth handovers and continuity of care.
Any other reasonable duties as required to ensure the safety and welfare of residents.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential:
GCSEs (Grade C/4 or above) in English and Maths or equivalent.
NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Health & Social Care (Children & Young People).
Minimum of 1 year's experience working with children and young people in any setting i.e. education, social care.
Experience working night shifts/and or in a lone-working environment.
Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality, and data protection principles.
Desirable:
Experience working in semi-independent or supported living services.
Experience working in a school setting.
Awareness of trauma-informed approaches.
Mental health first aid or similar training.
Familiarity with incident reporting.
