Job Description


The Digital Together project is funded through the Shared Prosperity Fund that aims to improve the skills and life chances of digitally excluded people in Conrwall by working in partnership with public and third sector organisations. The project is a partnership led by Cornwall Rural Community Charity and partners with Cornwall Council, Age UK, Citizens Advice and the University of Exeter.

The research project will support rural communities to design their own digital solutions to their local challenges. We will hold community engagement events and co-design events that are focused on increasing the capacity of places to leverage the opportunities of digital to improve the social fabric of place. The role will involve creative co-design with digital technologies and micro grants communities to increase the communities\xe2\x80\x99 digital capital to tackle locally identified challenges.

This role is based within the School of Art, Design and Architecture at the University. You will have a postgraduate degree in a relevant discipline, including training in research methods, and ideally have research interests of digital inclusion and related topics. You will be responsible community engagement, data gathering and evaluation. This will include working creatively with local stakeholders and user groups with a range of digital technologies. You will also be involved in collaborating within the project team and contributing to the wider project objectives. You will be skilled at analysing and writing up information, including ideally quantitative data; will be able to present complex information effectively to a range of audiences; to write up findings accurately and clearly, with excellent communication skills.

You will have:

  • A PhD in an arts, humanities or social sciences discipline or equivalent experience
  • Research background in digital inclusion or community empowerment
  • Experience of creative co-design and engagement
  • An ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
You will be based in the School of Art, Design and Architecture in Plymouth, but will be expected to visit various locations in Cornwall as part of the project.

This is a part-time position working 3 days a week (or equivalent) on a fixed-term basis until 31 March 2025 (18 months) due to funding.

The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.
