We are currently looking for a Research Contracts Officer to join our established contracts team, within our in-house legal department. You will provide legal advice to LSTM and manage, draft and amend an assigned caseload that ensures contracts are successfully negotiated and executed in a timely and effective manner. Why LSTM? What will the role involve? Contract Support: You will be accountable for the preparation, review, negotiation and execution of a range of Contracts, including but not limited to Research Collaboration Agreements, Industry Contracts, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Material Transfer Agreements and Services Agreements You will also review, negotiate and execute Research Contracts offered by partner/funding organisations to assess their fitness for purpose and draft project specific Research Contracts. This would also involve working closely with Academic and Professional Services colleagues to advise on and interpret clauses within the wider context of a project. Part of this role will also include managing the direct negotiation of contractual clauses, working with colleagues within and outside of the organisation to bring agreements and contracts to mutually acceptable conclusions. Contract Policy, Risk and Audit: You will provide comprehensive advice and guidance to staff on issues relating to Research Contract risk, insurance and liabilities and ensure that all allocated Research Contracts are risk assessed, recorded and presented alongside contract documentation ahead of signature. Part of this role will involve contributing to the review of LSTM regulations, policies and procedures relating to Contract Research and related activities, including IP management, commercialisation and exploitation and governance. You\xe2\x80\x99ll also need to engage fully with the Data Protection Officer and Due Diligence Manager about data protection law, Data Protection Impact Assessment \xe2\x80\x93 Risk Assessments and Research Data Management plans pertinent to research contracts. Ideally, you\xe2\x80\x99ll be able to bring the following experience to this role:

  • Qualified to degree level (or equivalent) in a legal or business-related field and/or substantial contract officer experience in a relevant sector
  • Experience of working in a professional contract role within a Higher Education or a similar Research intensive based environment such as the NHS or an R&D office
  • Experience of preparing, reviewing and negotiating a range of Contracts for internal and external review
  • Experience of reviewing and analysing Contracts to identify risks or gaps in information.
  • Experience of providing advice and support to colleagues on issues relating to Contract risk
  • Excellent knowledge, experience and understanding of developments in relevant legislation, practices and procedures
  • Ability to work independently whilst monitoring, managing, prioritising and contributing to the shared team workload
  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills with strong negotiation skills. Ability to negotiate with confidence, tact and diplomacy across a diverse range of partner organisations
  • Excellent administrative, organisational and time management skills with the ability to work to demanding deadlines
  • Excellent IT skills, particularly in spreadsheets, word and data inputting into databases
