The Department of Architecture is seeking 2 x Post-Doctoral Research Associates to join our Centre for Natural Material Innovation. The role-holders, as experts in Timber Products, Recycling, Construction & Life Cycle Assessment, will work on our Horizon Europe funded WOODCIRCLES research project. The aim of the project is to position the Urban Forest (existing building stock) as a mainstream source of recovered, carbon-neutral construction materials.
These are full-time, fixed-term roles within the department, with initial funding for 2 years in the first instance. The role is department based at 1-5 Scroope Terrace, Trumpington Street, Cambridge, with some flexibility for hybrid working.
Working within and liaising with a large interdisciplinary consortium of stakeholders - from materials producers to construction and digitalization experts to city partners - the role-holders will conduct research on the development of material-based solutions for increased recycling of materials currently bound in existing buildings and as well as develop design-based solutions to simplify future re-use and recycling of Urban Forest materials.
Specifically, the work-stream has two inter-related strands and it is anticipated that each post-doctoral research associate will focus on one of these:
