The Boto lab is interested in the dissection of neural circuits that modulate memory in Drosophila. We use a combination of molecular, imaging and behavioural approaches to study how dopaminergic neurons modulate brain activity and behaviour, focusing on olfactory memory. The lab has recently joined the neuroscience community in Bristol, and the selected candidate will participate in the set-up of lab techniques, new projects and the establishment of lab culture, which will be invaluable to researchers with ambitions to start their own labs in the future.
What will you be doing?

You will be expected to conceptually lead your research project with supervision from the Principal Investigator: design and conduct behavioural, molecular and imaging experiments, data analysis, present results in internal meetings and in international scientific conferences, engage with the literature and assist with the writing of papers/grants, etc.
You will be responsible for the maintenance of supplies and fly stocks for the Boto lab. You will be responsible for the training and supervision of others within the laboratory (including undergraduate and master students) and the maintenance of a supportive and respectful working environment.
You will drive your own professional development and, with support from the line manager, actively look for opportunities to develop skills.
Responsible for administrative work associated with your research.
You should apply if

You have a background in neuroscience and are interested in neural circuits, learning and memory or neuromodulation (we also have projects in the lab relating to traumatic brain injury and neuroinflammation, so get in touch if this is of interest).
You have wet or dry lab experience and can bring expertise in behavioural analysis, calcium imaging, coding, confocal/2-photon microscopy. However please still apply if you have other relevant skills not listed here.
You work well independently and as a team, you are invested in the success of the project and has a genuine interest in the development and training of others and the maintenance of a supportive lab environment.
