Applications are welcome for a Research Associate in Bio-catalysis and Protein Engineering.
Working within the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology (MIB) under the supervision of Professor Nicholas Turner and Professor Anthony Green (funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation), with the overall aim to develop low-cost synthesis routes to global health drug targets by employing biocatalysis. We have recently completed work on the synthesis of the Covid-19 drug Molnupiravir and are now working on routes to Nirmatrelvir. Accelerating the development of low-cost syntheses for these critical targets will facilitate treatment of the global population.
Working in a team, you will need good communication skills, exchanging technical information with scientists from different disciplines. You must have a strong background in chemistry, enzymology and biocatalysis backed up with a significant publication record. You need to possess relevant computer skills and have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. The role requires a well-organised, yet flexible, approach to working. You should have a PhD prior to taking up the position.
