The Nuffield Department of Women\'s & Reproductive Health (NDWRH) have an exciting opportunity for a Research Assistant in Artificial Intelligence to join the Vatish Research Team.
The aim of this project is to substantially advance pregnancy care globally. A key part of the role will focus on assisting the development of state-of-the-art machine learning approaches to produce AI-driven tools for the analysis of the fetal heart rate (cardiotocography/electronic fetal monitoring) and clinical data. This is a great opportunity for the post holder to develop and apply AI to tackle key questions in maternal-fetal medicine, which can be directly applied to clinical practice.
Within the department, you will proactively develop probabilistic modelling and/or machine learning methods, and produce well-documented open-source code implementing algorithms for general use adhering to established frameworks for best practice in research software engineering. You will be required to provide support to researchers and clinicians within the team with respect to the preparation and maintenance of datasets critical to ongoing research projects and collaborate with local and international research groups and stakeholders.
The suitable candidate will hold a PhD/DPhil (or near completion) or a graduate degree (e.g. MSc) with demonstrable post-qualification experience in data science or equivalent professional experience in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Physics or Statistics.
The post-holder will be self-motivated, an excellent communicator and have the ability to organise their work efficiently. Experience of data management and processing of large datasets in preparation for machine learning/probabilistic modelling is essential for this role as well as knowledge of state-of-the-art machine learning approaches, particularly using Deep Neural Networks, such as recurrent neural networks, transformers for time series modelling, etc.
The post is offered on a full-time, fixed-term basis. The post is available 1st September 2023 and is fixed for 24 months.
Applications for flexible working arrangements are welcomed and will be considered in line with business needs.
