Research And Enterprise Officer

Southampton, United Kingdom

Job Description

Location: Avenue Campus

Interview Date: To be confirmed

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is seeking a Research and Enterprise Officer to work proactively alongside academic colleagues to support the delivery of its research and enterprise strategy. You will focus on supporting academics to take forward projects that deliver significant benefits to society outside of academia, based on exceptional research from across the full range of arts and humanities disciplines. The Faculty works across the arts, heritage, creative and cultural sectors and has a particular focus on exploring what is possible at the interface of the arts, science, and technology. You will work with academics to maximise the reach of their work, identifying additional opportunities for generating impact, and provide coordination and expert advice for capturing evidence of that impact.

About the role:

You will be focussed on providing specialist support for the full life-cycle of impact activities to academic colleagues. You will build relationships with academic colleagues and support them in identifying opportunities to enhance the impact of the research, facilitate activities, and develop best practice in capturing evidence that allows us to demonstrate the contribution of the research to public policy, culture, the economy, the environment or the quality of life, beyond academia. You will play a key role alongside the Faculty leadership for research and enterprise in preparing for the next REF.

You will also be responsible for providing leadership and line management to research administration colleagues. You will work in partnership with a second Research & Enterprise Officer, whose role is more focussed on facilitating knowledge exchange and enterprise activity and work closely with the Associate Dean for Research & Enterprise and the University\'s Impact Framework Manager to ensure alignment of priorities and practices across the portfolio.

About You:

To be successful in this role you will:

  • have proven knowledge of research activity in higher education (and ideally specific experience of activity related to impact case studies or the Research Excellence Framework);
  • have experience working in the context of funded research activity, and ideally of knowledge exchange;
  • have exceptional writing skills to support funding applications;
  • apply analytic and evaluative skills to research and enterprise activities;
  • be an excellent communicator and able to build relationships both internally and externally.
This post is offered on a full-time permanent basis, working across University sites in both Southampton and Winchester. Hybrid working arrangements are possible in support of positive work-life balance.

About the University:

The University promotes a healthy work life balance with a generous holiday allowance, defined benefit pension, flexible working, generous parental leave, and childcare provision. For more information on our benefits, please visit our human resources pages.
