Registered Nurse, Band 5- Gynaecology (14.38 hours a week)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated & dynamic Registered Nurse with an interest in caring for women, to join our team part time
The ward incorporates in-patients & an emergency gynaecology assessment unit dealing with many gynaecological conditions, some of which can be difficult, including problems in early pregnancy. We are looking for a compassionate, enthusiastic, organised individual with some experience in the specialty. They will need to have the ability to prioritise their workload & be able to respond appropriately in emergency situations

This part-time post has varying shifts & requires an individual who is willing to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including at times in gynaecology out patients
The nurse will be required to work on the ward providing 24hr care, with an expectation that they will rotate into emergency gynaecology assessment and less frequently but gynaecology out patients also
Gynaecology care will be varied & include those with early pregnancy problems, gynaecological cancers, benign conditions such as endometriosis, menopause & urogynaecological conditions.
The nurse will need to provide compassion & care to women receiving bad news & to those experiencing pregnancy loss & work with the multi disciplinary team within the division to provide a high standard of care. They will need to act as a chaperone & patient advocate
The candidate needs to be able to manage their own workload & be able to prioritise care. They will need to be able to recognise emergency situations & take appropriate action
They will also need to have heightened awareness of safeguarding issues as many women are likely to be at increased risk of domestic violence
Gynaecology is committed to providing high quality care at the right time, in the right location by the right person . The ward is a newly formed team caring for 13 in-patients with side rooms and an emergency gynaecology assessment unit, co-located on the ward open during the daytime.

Act as the patient's advocate

Maintaining confidentiality in keeping with NMC code
Act as a chaperone when patients are having intimate examinations and ensure maintenance of privacy and dignity
Complete documentation to a high standard electronically and in writing format
Maintain and provide patients with relevant and accessible written information regarding their procedures/treatments
Promote effective liaison between all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Deal with difficult situations including patients who are upset or angry; provide compassion to colleagues and patients and their families.
To ensure a positive focused service incorporating patient's feedback to maintain and improve patient care
To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
Providing teaching opportunities and contribute to learning and development of staff
To ensure the safety and highest quality of care for patients is delivered at all times.
Assist health care professionals during examination of the patient's and minor surgical procedures and assist in arranging investigations.
Work within the Emergency Gynaecology Assessment unit and the ward as per roster allocation
Support staff within the team to develop and learn
Registered Nurse or Nurse Associate with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Experience caring for gynaecology patients including those experiencing pregnancy loss
Act as a resource for all staff disseminating clinical skills and knowledge
Knowledge of how the patients flow around the Trust
Basic IT skills including Word, Excel and email.
Competence in a range of nursing skills.
To be able to maintain accurate clinical observations of the patient and act accordingly
To be able to monitor patient's progress, work towards safe and timely discharge plans and ensure barriers to discharge are identified and acted on appropriately
