What we do:

Everyone has an idea of what a water company does. Here in Yorkshire, we make sure that over 5.4 million people living in the region and the millions of people who visit our region each year, can rely on our services, and have clean and safe drinking water on tap and that their wastewater is taken away. But for us, it's so much more than this.

We look after communities, protect the environment, and plan to look after Yorkshire's water, today, tomorrow 24/7, 365 days a year. We provide essential water and wastewater services to every corner of the Yorkshire region, and play a key role in the region's health, wellbeing, and prosperity.

New environmental legislation, unprecedented levels of investment and changing expectations from customers means that this is an exciting time to discover opportunities within the water industry. Water Asset are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.

The Raw Water Sponsor plays a crucial role in managing business risks associated with Yorkshire Water's catchwaters, impounding reservoirs, and transmission systems. They collaborate closely with asset management colleagues, operations, environmental teams, and reservoir safety to ensure a comprehensive understanding of these risks, considering any downstream production asset impacts. Additionally, the Sponsor supports the Water Industry National Environmental Programme (WINEP) and the pollution risk management process for raw water and water treatment. By applying asset management principles and established risk management processes, they develop interventions to achieve the company's strategic business objectives and performance commitments, while also considering programme funding constraints. Timely interventions are delivered based on risk assessments, and the Sponsor supports the development of raw water and environmental programmes for future asset management periods.

When capital expenditure interventions are necessary, the Sponsor guides risks through the various phases of the project lifecycle, including concept, definition, development, and hand back. They maintain involvement throughout the end-to-end delivery process to ensure outcomes are achieved within the parameters of time, cost, and quality. If any residual risks are identified during the project lifecycle, the Sponsor feeds these back into the risk management process to ensure they are acceptable to the business. Occasionally, the Raw Water Sponsor may be required to support production and reservoir safety risks and activities as needed. Sponsors are accountable for realizing desired outcomes and benefits from investments, providing a governance link between the organization's senior leaders and project management.
