An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Quality & Governance Lead to work as part of the newly implemented Southwest Prison Service supporting the organisation to fulfil its legal and regulatory requirements in a way that improves service user and staff experience. You will focus on identifying efficiencies or gaps in support, ensuring that service users consistently receive high quality and effective services.

Where: One of 10 South West prisons, with home working and frequent visits to other prisons across the region (*details of Prison sites at end of document) A full UK driving license and own transport is essential for this role

Hours: 37.5hrs per week

Salary: \xc2\xa337,790 - \xc2\xa342,129

Responsibilities

About the role:

  • Lead on all incident review processes including mortality investigations within the service and produce internal and external reports (for example, coroners reports)
  • Maintain internal records in regard to Coroner Reports and Inquest Correspondence
  • Act as point of contact across Southwest HMP Cluster for the PPO (Prison and Probation Ombudsman) and ensure all staff understand their responsibilities in regard to PPO investigation processes
  • Provide quality assurance (QA) support for external facing reports, liaise with the central Assurance Team for any high-risk cases identified
  • Train and coach managers in investigation and report writing skills
  • Using qualitative and quantitative data and information, identify systemic learning that informs local, regional, and organisational intelligence
  • Assess learning themes and working alongside local and regional leadership teams, identify opportunities to develop SQIP (service quality improvement plan)
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of any improvement measures implemented via the SQIP
  • Contribute to policy development to improve practice through the use of effective systems and tools
  • Collaborate with other partners including wider prison healthcare services to ensure the best service and treatment experience for service users
  • Monitor, evaluate HMP and CGL initiatives such as \xe2\x80\x9cThrough the Gate\xe2\x80\x9d and seek to continuously improve quality of service delivery
  • Communicate, monitor, and evaluate CGL Audit and any other Audit/Inspection processes such as HMIP across all Southwest HMP Cluster
  • Liaise with other HMP departments to support resolution of any identified barriers to service users\' access to interventions as and when required
About you:
  • Knowledge of Ministry of Justice Coronial processes
  • Experience or understanding of working with service users and staff teams in a custodial environment
  • Knowledge of pharmacological and psycho-social interventions for those with problematic substance misuse
  • Well-developed and creative communication skills with the ability to influence and persuade key personnel to continuously improve practice
  • Knowledge and understanding of quality improvement cycles and how to implement them effectively
  • Experience in project development and/or change management
  • Confidence to work autonomously as well as part of the team
  • Show commitment to facilitating positive outcomes for service users whilst employing an empathetic and non-judgmental attitude
  • Able to work as part of a senior management team inc. chairing meetings and line managing staff.
