Applications are invited for a junior Qualitative Researcher to join the Medical Sociology and Health Experiences Research Group (MS&HERG) and Hypertension team within the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences. You will work on two studies: 1) a short qualitative study aiming to understand public and physician understandings and perceptions of polygenic risk scores (PRS) and their integration into routine health checks in the UK and 2) a study of risk communication following hypertensive pregnancy aiming to understand current practice and identify elements of good practice and potential gaps in postpartum care for women who experience hypertensive pregnancy.
For the PRS study, you will conduct a scoping review and then conduct in-depth interviews and/or focus groups with a diverse sample of 20-25 participants. For the risk communication study, you will analyse qualitative interviews with current trial participants to better understand what women are currently told by health and care professionals about risk and what support they would find useful.
You will be a qualitative researcher, with a Masters in a relevant discipline, with proven expertise in qualitative methods and the ability to use social science theory-driven approaches to analysis. You will have a high level of communication and writing skills appropriate for different audiences as well as a publication record commensurate with experience. You will require a high degree of autonomy, have the ability to work sensitively and develop rapport and trust with patient and professional research participants from different backgrounds and levels of seniority as well as being able to work closely with other team members.
You will be based in the MS&HERG in the Nuffield Department of Primary Care Health Sciences, Radcliffe Primary Care Building, Woodstock Road, Oxford, OX2 6GG as your normal place of work but you may be able to agree a pattern of regular remote working with your line manager.
The part-time post is funded until 31 March 2026. The PRS study is funded by the Oxford BRC and led by Dr. Lisa Hinton and the risk communication study is funded by the Oxford ARC and is led by Dr. Katherine Tucker.
