Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full time 35 hours per week

We\'re open to a variety of ways of working, including full time, part time, job share and compressed hours.

Location: Stratford, London. Office-based with high flexibility (1-2 days per week in the office)

The Quality Assurance Team\'s mission is to drive quality into all software products produced by/or on behalf of Cancer Research UK. The team strives to enhance testing service throughout the project lifecycle and assist Technology in improving the quality of products we deliver to our customers, pushing the shift left forward in the lifecycle.

As a QA Engineer in the team, you will champion the quality of our features in our development pipeline, whether pairing with developers promoting testability or trying to break a feature through exploratory testing. You will own the authoring and execution of test plans, test cases, and testing at every stage of the lifecycle. You will significantly impact the quality and delivery speed of our software and most importantly ensure the features we deliver to supporters are of the highest quality by collaborating closely with Engineers, Product Managers, and other QA\xe2\x80\x99s. In addition, you can propose improvements to our existing processes and automated tools to improve the team\xe2\x80\x99s speed, quality, and efficiency.

This role will support our Science, Information, and Chief Operating Office (SIC) portfolio meaning you will deliver digital innovation and transformation to our Researchers and Cancer Research UK employees rotating across a range of products. Initially, you will focus on our platform (a SaaS solution built with a mobile-first approach) or our award-winning (a game-changing AWS cloud innovation) before rotating onto a new product. The customers you will provide value to include cancer patients, scientists, clinicians & nurses, politicians, our supporters, and our employees. Ultimately, you will know you are changing and saving lives through your work.

What will I be doing?

  • Operating as an independent QA professional working within one of our Technology portfolios which will involve close collaboration with the Product Manager, Business Analyst, and Developers.
  • Providing QA insight to the development teams. This includes early involvement in requirements gathering, reviewing design and architecture, defining testable acceptance criteria, and performing code reviews.
  • Providing guidance and assistance on functional testing perspective.
  • Testing for different customer needs (including functional, integration, accessibility, security and performance). Tools we like: Playwright, Axe, Artillery, and K6.
  • Setting up and maintaining QA automation infrastructure.
  • Reviewing design artefacts for testability and defining overall testing plans.
  • Being an ambassador for TDD, BDD, and ATDD models.
  • Championing in bug triage for customer values.
  • Truly understanding how the software application works inside and out.
  • Being committed to Cancer Research UK\xe2\x80\x99s vision to bring forward the day all cancers are cured.
  • Undertaking other tasks as necessary to contribute to the team objectives and those of Cancer Research UK.
What skills are you looking for?

To be considered for this role, you must have the right to work in the UK as we are not able to offer visa sponsorship for this role
  • Experience QA Engineer with experience working in an agile environment.
  • Skilled in the design of acceptance tests.
  • Working experience in REST API, Web GUI, and cross-browser testing. Tools we like: Playwright, Cypress, Pact, Postman (equivalent tools/frameworks valid)
  • Solid experience with TypeScript and/or JavaScript.
  • Exposure to non-functional testing.
  • An enthusiasm for exploratory testing.
