An opportunity has arisen to join the HarperFiction publicity team in a senior role, to work on and support innovative campaigns for some of the leading names in commercial fiction.
HarperFiction is home to two of the UK\'s most successful publishing estates in Agatha Christie and J. R.R. Tolkien, as well as to some of the UK\'s biggest brands in George R. R. Martin, Cecelia Ahern, Karin Slaughter; chart-topping novels Yellowface, How To Kill Your Family and Girl A, plus the British Book Awards Imprint of the Year HarperVoyager, and literary imprint The Borough Press. We are looking for a senior publicist to join our successful Fiction division as Publicity Director. A fantastic opportunity for someone with extensive publicity experience and a strong understanding of the commercial fiction market to join an established and successful team. Working closely with the PR team, and your editorial and marketing colleagues, you will devise and implement innovative, integrated and targeted publicity campaigns for a diverse range of bestselling and emerging fiction authors, as well as literary estates, with the aim of driving profitable sales and raising and maintaining their profiles. The role will also involve managing members of the team and assuming responsibility of wider strategy and special projects.
Core responsibilities
Develop and deliver innovative and creative publicity campaigns in line with key objectives across individual titles or brand authors
Generate and foster profile and feature coverage across all relevant media - including print, broadcast/podcasts, online and events
Plan and execute author tours / visits to raise author profile and generate sales
Work closely with the editorial, marketing and sales teams to ensure publicity opportunities are fully maximised and communicated across the division
Present publicity strategy and campaigns to internal and external stakeholders including editors, authors and agents
Ensure a strong presence in key internal meetings from acquisitions to campaign planning and strategy.
Maintain and develop relationships with key contacts across all media platforms
Work closely with the PR Director on team strategy and initiatives outside of campaign work - from media relations to events programming and wider planning
Generate trade press releases and announce new title acquisitions
Experience required
Publicity experience in commercial fiction
Excellent author care experience
Proven track record in generating publicity coverage across a variety of authors and campaigns and a range of media
Experience across a variety of genres including crime, literary brands/estates
Experience of organising and managing author tours and events
Experience of organising successful events, with relevant partners
Experience in effectively managing team members
Skills required
Capable of creative and innovative publicity campaigns
The ability to juggle a heavy workload under pressure
Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
A team player with excellent communication and organisational skills
Motivated self-starter with a \'can-do\' attitude
Extensive and proven network of media, literary and bookseller contacts
