Job description
We value a diverse workforce and welcome applications from all sections of the community wishing to join a workforce which embraces difference and welcomes everyone.
At the Environment Agency there's so much more to our work than building flood risk management schemes or regulating industry. We strive to ensure that everything we do counts towards a legacy to be proud of - for people, communities, and the environment - for all of us and future generations to enjoy. This role will see you lead a professional and motivated team, helping develop our organisation's strategic ambitions with a remit to onboard, induct and develop a cohort of project professionals and align them to our ways of working and set up them for a successful project management career.
You'll build and enhance a great working environment and be a key figure within your local leadership group. Focusing on supporting and developing your professionally qualified team, you'll demonstrate excellent behaviours, collaborative working and build a strong network of working relationships inside and outside the organisation. You will demonstrate your ability to understand policy and process, translating into clear guidance for your team. Communication and leadership skills are crucial, building strong collaborative relationships across the organisation, our partners, and local communities. Experience of embedding and developing new colleagues into operational teams will be essential.
Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training, and alternative working arrangements will be available to support you with your incident role.
The team
We are Programme & Contract Management (PCM), creating a better place through our excellent project and programme management service. Our well-qualified staff manage projects throughout their lifecycle to deliver flood risk management, environmental improvements, and shared ownership with local communities.
We're progressing an ambitious strategy to drive the growth of our team and the development of project management expertise for the short-, medium- and long-term future.
Experience/skills required
Essential
You will have line management experience in a large organisation and have history of onboarding, inducting and developing new team members.
You will be a passionate leader, with the ability to build a great working environment and bring the best out of people.
You will be skilled in developing people, managing performance, delivering through others, building inclusive relationships, and embedding excellence and knowledge sharing.
Ability to shape engaging induction programmes across multiple inductees.
Desirable
Experience working in a project management industry or function.
Knowledge and experience of flood risk and coastal risk management or experience of managing resources on construction programmes.
Chartered membership of a professional body.
The way you inspire and motivate people will set you apart - along with big-picture thinking that can improve our operations.
