We are looking for an experienced researcher and communications specialist to deliver an online exhibition and raise awareness through research and engagement outputs on Esther Inglis (1571-1624). Inglis was a highly skilled artist and intellectual of French Huguenot parentage; brought up in Edinburgh, she worked mainly in Scotland, producing important works as a calligrapher, embroiderer, miniaturist and writer. Her quadricentennial provides the opportunity to raise her public profile, highlighting her Edinburgh and Scottish connections and work, through an academic and curatorial project, centring her narrative within a Scottish context.

The Opportunity:

The Esther Inglis 2024 Project Curator will create an attractive and engaging online exhibition and resource, telling Esther\'s story in a compelling way. The postholder will engage in original research to develop an engaging and in-depth narrative of this enigmatic Scottish creator. It will manage the relationships with other Inglis-holding institutions and be responsible for ordering of digital images of the relevant materials to support ongoing work.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Demonstrable research and engagement experience in the field of Scottish or women\'s history
  • Experience of writing at a variety of levels (exhibition copy, public engagement articles and speeches, peer-reviewed academic publications)
  • Project management within the cultural heritage sector
  • Proven track record of collaboration with academic audiences and heritage collections
  • Excellent influencing and interpersonal skills
