Salary:

Full time starting salary is normally in the range \xc2\xa334,980 to \xc2\xa344,263, with potential progression once in post to \xc2\xa346,974.

Background

The Business Engagement and Research Impact (BERI) team works alongside senior Academic and Professional Services leaders to shape the University\'s ambitious strategy for Business Engagement, Research Impact, and Regional Innovation, and provides sector-leading expertise and drive to support the delivery of this vision, working in close collaboration with our five Colleges and a wide range of external organisations. From supporting student placements and graduate employment, helping business to co-create innovations to achieve their own goals, and assisting researchers to achieve policy change that will improve the lives of people around the world, the team facilitates collaboration across all our research disciplines in a highly stimulating and creative work environment.

The Programmes Officer (Research Impact) is responsible for the running and management of the University of Birmingham\'s portfolio of institutional impact funds awarded to the University by our strategic funding partners such as UKRI and Research England, including overseeing post-award delivery of funded projects. The post holder will provide authoritative advice to the University and it\'s Colleges on the appropriate use of the funding, and the management and delivery of impact supported through the funding. The Programmes Officer (Research Impact) will play a pivotal part in supporting and expanding impact and engagement activity across the University. The Programmes Officer (Research Impact) reports to the Programmes Manager (Research Impact), working closely with the academic leads of the University\'s institutional impact funds. The successful candidate will direct institutional impact funding-related activity for other staff, as appropriate.

Person Specification

  • Undergraduate degree-level or equivalent;
  • Experience of project management in a complex organisation, preferably in an academic setting;
  • Experience of developing research impact, developing research funding bids, and/or delivering post-award support with a client-focused approach;
  • An ability to work independently, and to manage time effectively, progress tasks concurrently, and work under pressure to meet deadlines in a proactive, problem-solving manner;
  • Experience of managing budgets and reporting processes, including reporting to external stakeholders;
  • An ability to foster co-operation and collaborative internal and external partnership working in order to achieve common goals and support the University\'s strategic aims;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write clearly and persuasively;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage confidently and diplomatically with external stakeholders and a range of academic and Professional Services colleagues at all levels, including senior leadership;
  • Excellent IT skills particularly MS Office applications including Word, PowerPoint and Excel;
  • Excellent analytical skills with an ability to analyse complex qualitative and quantitative information and present conclusions clearly and concisely;
  • Proven problem solving skills used to identify and implement improvements and efficiencies;
  • Knowledge of the protected characteristics of the Equality Act 2010, and how to actively ensure in day-to-day activity in own area that those with protected characteristics are treated equally and fairly;
  • Knowledge of research management and post-award processes is desirable.
