Job Description

The role of the post holder will be to provide overarching programme management function into one of the Trust's most high-profile programmes; a new clinical and research facility for children and young people (The Pears Maudsley Centre). a new adult inpatient facility (New Douglas Bennett House) and a new Urgent & Emergency Care Centre at the Maudsley site.



The Programme Manager for this post will have extensive subject matter experience in project, programme and portfolio management and governance. They will manage stakeholders up to executive level and ensure effective communication across the programme.



The post holder will demonstrate a methodical and structured approach to programme management, governance and decision making and stakeholder management to support delivery of this partnership programme.



To lead, manage and coordinate delivery of high complex/high value programme of work, with a number of associated workstreams including the build, estates and facilities, HR, finance, communications and (clinical) operations.

To ensure effective governance and decision-making structures are implemented and maintained, that ensure timely and effective decisions, including with partners as appropriate.

To implement effective reporting and assurance processes.

To facilitate effective cross workstream communications to ensure all partners are up to date on the latest programme timeline, risks, and issues.

To identify and facilitate the timely resolution of 'bottlenecks' in the critical pathways of the programme, and to track and ensure owners of new deliverables and actions arising. To problem solve with workstream colleagues, negotiating resolutions to issues arising between workstreams and teams.

To provide to agreed deadlines regular reports to the relevant Programme Boards updating on progress and requirements, and to deliver to agreed deadlines, the production of high-quality project documentation.

To support the workstream leads, their teams and other stakeholders to manage the activities in an effective and timely manner.

To identify risks, issues, and interdependencies between workstreams and ensure robust solutions are in place to resolve and/or mitigate these.

To support the development of skills and abilities across the programme workstreams and wider PMO team.



South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. The Trust employ around 5000 staff and serve a local population of 1.1 million people. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient, and community services. Currently, provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley, and Greenwich.
