Job Overview
The Production Operative in a cabinet factory is responsible for manufacturing, assembling, and finishing high-quality cabinets. This includes operating machinery, handling materials, and ensuring all products are made to specifications and meet quality standards within set timelines. The role requires attention to detail, teamwork, and adherence to safety procedures in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Material Handling
: Prepare and handle raw materials such as wood, MDF, plywood, and laminate for cabinet production.
Machine Operation
: Operate various woodworking machinery, including saws, routers, edge banders, and drills, to cut, shape, and finish components accurately.
Assembly
: Assemble cabinet components following detailed drawings and customer specifications.
Measuring and Cutting
: Accurately measure and cut materials to required sizes using hand tools and power tools.
Finishing
: Apply finishing treatments to cabinet surfaces as needed.
Quality Control
: Inspect completed products for defects, ensuring they meet company standards and customer specifications. Report any issues or defects found during production.
Packaging
: Pack finished cabinets securely for delivery or storage, ensuring products are protected during transit.
Safety Compliance
: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and ensure that workstations and machinery are kept in safe working conditions.
Team Collaboration
: Work effectively with other team members to meet production targets and deadlines.
Maintenance
: Assist in the upkeep of machinery and tools, reporting any faults or needed repairs to the supervisor.
Key Skills
& Qualifications:
Previous experience in a manufacturing or woodworking environment is an advantage.
Ability to operate woodworking machinery safely and efficiently.
Strong attention to detail and precision in assembly and finishing work.
Good understanding of technical drawings and cabinet construction.
Physical stamina to handle heavy materials and long periods of standing.
Basic numeracy and literacy skills for measuring and interpreting production instructions.
Good team player with the ability to work independently when required.
Desirable Qualifications:
Previous experience in cabinet making or furniture production.
Knowledge of woodwork and carpentry techniques.
Health and safety certification, particularly in manufacturing settings.
Ability to work with a variety of materials and finishes.
