Who are we looking for?

Working on one of the only tritium processing and separation facilities in the world will give the candidate a unique opportunity to learn about the operational aspects of future tritium plants firsthand. The work allows a good mixture of document based technical work as well as being physically present on site to manage our technicians in undertaking physical maintenance, installation and commissioning work. Key competencies for the role include a good attention to detail and good organisational and communication skills in order to plan work from a technical and safety standpoint as well as to plan and execute individual packages of work.

What will you be responsible for?

The candidate will be responsible for supporting the continued operations of the Active Gas Handling System (AGHS) within J25 at Culham. As a Process Operations Engineer, the candidate will support the Lead Process Operations Engineer in providing technical input and support into the continued operation, maintenance and design of operations sub-systems or integrating the design of new experiments / experimental facilities. Part of this will involve the creation of Work Control Packs, Method Statements and Risk Assessments to allow the safe completion of work. The successful candidate will also be expected to support maintaining system records and the design baseline of the sub-systems.

Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competence required

  • Qualified to HNC/Degree level (or equivalent) in an engineering or scientific discipline; or have suitable experience within plant engineering.
  • Understanding of document management systems and/or technical control of documentation
  • IT literate, fluent in Microsoft Office, including Excel & Access, SharePoint
  • Capability to support writing technical documents
  • Able to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good planning, organising and time management skills
  • Discreet & professional approach to technical or scientific activities
  • Positive attitude to development of own knowledge and skills
Desirable skills, experience and competence
  • Understanding of radioactive materials or other hazardous materials including procedural and safety requirements
  • Experience working in an engineering/scientific environment
