Pro Bono Co-ordinator - Birmingham Job description

The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the world\'s largest law schools. With an impressive history dating back to 1876, we employ over 1,000 staff and have over 14,000 students studying on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, along with an alumni network in excess of 100,000. We were the first-ever independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers and in 2012 we gained university title. With a rich heritage and a reputation for innovation and contemporary teaching practices, we continuously focus on developing the best legal and business minds. In 2016, we opened our leading Business School, further enhancing our reputation as a full service legal, business and educational training specialist, operating from campuses throughout the UK, Berlin and Hong Kong and an Online campus.

What really sets us apart from other universities is the guiding principle that future lawyers and business leaders should learn in a realistic, professional and contemporary context, with plenty of practical interactive engagement. That\'s why we keep our contact hours high and our teaching groups small.

We are looking to recruit a 0.8FTE for our Birmingham campus to lead on the delivery of the local Pro Bono programme. We are celebrating 25 years of Pro Bono provision in 2023/24 so this is a perfect time to join a team who provide excellent experience to our students as they are supervised by qualified solicitors to help provide vital support to those in need. You must be a qualified solicitor or barrister with a licence and strong at building relationships with fellow professionals who will contribute their time to support our programme.

We offer an excellent range of competitive benefits including a generous annual leave allowance, private medical scheme, contributory pension scheme, life assurance, training and qualifications, and travel loans.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact our Head of Pro Bono, Amanda.Crutchley@law.ac.uk

No agencies please.

Some posts within the University are subject to a DBS check - you will be notified of this during the application process.

What do we offer?

We offer an inclusive and supportive work environment and are committed to developing our staff through a variety of means including educational sponsorship, discounted course fees and a range of in-house training. We also offer a generous annual leave allowance and private medical insurance.

Our approach

Equity and Inclusion is central to everything we do. We are actively committed to promoting and participating in good practice in the way we attract and retain staff, as we appreciate the value and benefits of a truly diverse workforce. Aligned to this is the opportunity to join one of our three peer staff networks for Disabled staff, LGBTQ+ staff and staff from an underrepresented race, ethnicity and/or cultural heritage.

We celebrate difference and recognise the benefits that this brings to our inclusive culture, including age, disability, gender identity and expression, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation and socio economic background. The University is committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population and wider society; we are striving to increase the representation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds across all roles and at all levels. All appointments will be made on merit.
