SLR has a large and successful growing Planning and Environmental Impact Assessment team that works across all business areas throughout the UK. We are looking to further expand the team with the appointment of a Principal or Associate Planner with relevant town planning qualifications and experience to our Scottish team. The role, which could be part-time or full-time, would comprise a mixture of home working and working from our Edinburgh, Glasgow or Stirling offices.

You will play a significant role in the delivery of renewable energy, infrastructure and other major developments across Scotland. In addition, you will be managing a variety of projects from major planning and EIA applications, to smaller submissions, discharge of conditions, planning appeals, planning appraisals, and more for a wide range of clients. SLR manages a range of planning and consent applications relating to renewable energy, decentralised energy, infrastructure, industrial and many more sectors. Additionally, you will support the business with the development of new commercial opportunities maintaining and building established client relationships.

The role
This opportunity will provide a dynamic range of duties including:

  • Leading a range of planning applications, EIAs and development work taking projects from initial inception and early strategy development through to consent and discharge of planning conditions.
  • Working alongside our Planning and EIA team to coordinate a range of in-house and external technical specialists together with taking the lead on the management, preparation and review of a range of technical reports and supporting documentation.
  • Delivering inputs across all project lifecycles and interface with the wider project stakeholders, including the client and their technical team. \xe2\x80\xa2 You will be producing written deliverables and representing the business and its clients to key stakeholders, local authorities, and regulators.
  • You will have the opportunity to work within an experienced team and be involved in a series of exciting challenges with one of the leading environmental consultancies in the UK and will have the opportunity to work with the SLR offices around the UK.
This role will involve short term travel across the UK depending on client/project sites as required.

About you
You will be an experienced Planner (preferably with a consultancy background) with excellent knowledge of renewables and/or infrastructure developments. A proven track record in wind farm consenting would be advantageous, but not essential.

Credible and cooperative, you will have a broad skill set that allows you to lead multidisciplinary teams. Your strong interpersonal skills, coupled with your technical knowledge, will mean you can successfully engage and build trust with clients and stakeholder groups.

We are looking for someone with:
  • Planning or EIA related degree or post-graduate qualification, along with excellent knowledge of the planning system and EIA in Scotland;
  • A relevant professional qualification e.g. RTPI;
  • Excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Team and client management skills; and
  • Proven ability to work to deadlines and budgets and manage programmes.
  • Driving Licence valid in the UK is essential
