Our Internal Audit, Risk and Corporate Fraud Team has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Risk and Governance Officer with energy and drive to join our service.

This is an exciting opportunity to perform a key role within the Council, working with a wide variety of internal services, and external services supporting risk management and governance.

WHAT IS INVOLVED?

With an excellent knowledge of risk management and the associated key principles and methodologies, you will be an integral part of the team, supporting the delivery of a customer focused risk management and governance service.

The role is full of variety. You will work closely with the Risk, Insurance and Governance Manager in the maintenance of robust systems for risk management and corporate governance across all Council operations to ensure that it delivers its priorities and achieves its objectives.

Working collaboratively, you will contribute to:

  • The development of the Council\'s risk management policy and strategy and Code of Corporate Governance
  • The development and delivery of a training programme for officers and members on corporate governance and risk management
  • Embedding effective risk management and the principles of good corporate governance
  • The provision of advice and guidance in relation to effective risk management and corporate governance

WHAT WILL YOU NEED?

You will need either a risk management qualification, relevant degree or other relevant qualification and professional membership.

You will also need:
  • Relevant experience of risk assessments
  • Awareness of the key principles and methodologies for managing business risks
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills and an excellent aptitude for developing innovative solutions.

HYBRID WORKING:

Durham County Council currently operates a hybrid working policy where a model of 2 days in the workplace and 3 days at home/remote will apply. This model is pro-rated for part time roles and arrangements are at managers discretion, alternatively you can work all of your contracted hours within the workplace if you prefer.
