About Us

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube, DLR, and Elizabeth Line access. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. You will be working within the Highways and Sustainable Transport service within the Environment and Sustainable Transport directorate where we are committed to making all our streets safer and healthier so that more people choose to walk and cycle, and can enjoy healthy and active local journeys with better air quality and less cars on local streets.

About the Job

The Structures team is responsible for maintaining and inspecting the Council\'s highway structures and providing structural engineering service within the Highways and Traffic group and to other in-house clients within the Council, such as checking building control, carrying out structural surveys and design. As the Principal Engineer, your responsibilities will include maintenance and inspection of highway structures, checking building control calculations and providing structural engineering service on projects within the Highways group. The post holder is also expected to be able to partake in the delivery of projects.

About You

To apply, you will have the knowledge, experience and skills to work in a highly pressurized environment, both on your own and within a team, to deliver projects on budget and to tight deadlines. Candidates should have demonstrable relevant experience and skills in structural design, site supervision, project management as well as stakeholder management, and contract management experience. It is expected that the post holder be either have or approaching professional member status with an appropriate institution.
