Brief Description

We currently have an amazing opportunity for a drainage, vegetation and ancillary assets professional with excellent technical and stakeholder management skills as well as business acumen.

As the Principal Engineer for Drainage and Off-Track, you will provide expertise and direction for drainage, vegetation and boundary management in the Southern region based in London Blackfriars.

The Drainage, vegetation and boundary portfolio is extensive due to the size and scale of the Southern Region where we steward some of the busiest sections of the rail network in the country. These assets often go unnoticed but can have a major impact on our ability to deliver for our customers. We are therefore seeking someone with experience who is passionate about this discipline, to drive the strategic direction for the region whilst understanding and articulating the risk to our many and varied stakeholders

About the role (External)

Key Accountabilities

\xc2\xb7 Set the strategic direction for the discipline.

\xc2\xb7 Proactively research and respond to changes in the industry.

\xc2\xb7 Identify opportunities for technical and business process improvement and innovation, developing business cases and delivering outputs as required.

\xc2\xb7 Represent Network Rail externally to the industry and input to European issues as required, speaking on and publishing in relevant platforms.

\xc2\xb7 Provide expert advice, input and support associated with the provision of services for our customers and suppliers.

\xc2\xb7 Lead the setting of policy, establishment of processes and systems.

\xc2\xb7 Lead the technical input into the development of the standards.

\xc2\xb7 Manage the design and delivery of programmes for the development of technical capability.

\xc2\xb7 Provide professional leadership for the development of the team and undertake professional mentorship in support of their achievement of professional registration to their relevant professional body.

\xc2\xb7 Integrate and co-ordinate activity across different engineering disciplines and contribute to the development of engineers within the Practice.

Job Skills, Experience and Qualifications

Essential

  • Chartered or demonstrate equivalent experience.
  • A sound knowledge of applicable policies, standards and national legislation
  • Experience of developing technology and product strategies
  • Knowledge of the safety management and risk assessment process
Desirable
  • Formal Project Management qualification (e.g. APMP, PRINCE2, PMIP, MSP)
  • Strong commercial awareness and financially astute
  • Broad and extensive experience in the development of engineering technology
  • Experience of working in railway infrastructure management or a similar environment.
