About the role
This is UCL\xe2\x80\x99s first undergraduate media programme, though its design has been informed by longstanding postgraduate programmes in a range of media-related disciplines, including media and cultural studies, film studies, and ethnographic documentary film.
The BA combines theory and practice, offering practice-based pathways in game design and film-making, and theoretical grounding in media histories, media ethnography and semiotics. It is a collaboration between three faculties: the Institute of Education (lead); Arts and Humanities; and Social and Historical Sciences.
It is designed to equip students for a wide range of media-related jobs, and incorporates modules on media entrepreneurship as well as a work-based placement scheme drawing on collaboration with media industries, community organisations and the cultural sector.
It will be housed in the new Marshgate building at UCL East, with state-of-the-art specialist facilities in media production from 2023.

Year 1: Objects of Media History
Year 2: Objects of Media History II
Year 2: Multimodality and Fan Cultures
Year 2: Digital Economy and Professional Practice
Year 3: Media Globalisation
Year 3: Media Entrepreneurship
Years 1/2/3: Practice-based research modules
You will provide support to the Module Leaders on the academic administration of and basic academic inputs into the programme.
Your main areas of responsibility will be to: assist the programme lead in the overall management of the seminar groups you are supporting, ensuring that assignments are appropriately marked (working closely with the module leader) and feedback returned to students. You will receive professional development in teaching support. Please attach a one page expression of interest and a CV - please address the criteria in numerical order.
These posts are for UCL students only and are for up to 180 hours and are available from 1st September 2023 to 31 August 2024. Please be aware that students may only be employed up to 180 hours in total as a PGTA across all UCL programmes.
About you
The successful candidate will be working towards a PhD and educated to at least Masters level. Excellent communication skills, knowledge and experience of group facilitation and interactive methods are all essential. Experience of assisting module leaders and/or seminar teaching/facilitation at university level in a related field is desirable.
