We are seeking a motivated scientist to work in a collaborative environment on induced pluripotent stem cell-derived cardiomyocytes. Reporting to A/Professor Christopher Toepfer and Professor Hugh Watkins, you will use a wide range of molecular and cellular biology techniques and will use your expertise to carry out a novel research project within the Radcliffe Department of Medicine in collaboration with Biomarin exploring understanding in Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). As a postdoctoral researcher you will provide guidance to less experienced members of the research group, such as PhD and project students.
Professor Hugh Watkins\'s group are interested in understanding the underlying genetics of cardiomyopathy with a view to understanding disease mechanisms and designing novel genetic therapeutic approaches. Professor Christopher Toepfer\'s research group is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms of inherited cardiomyopathies with an aim of developing new strategies that can be used for the diagnosis of or therapeutic intervention in cardiovascular disease.
Your responsibilities will include adapting existing and developing new scientific techniques and experimental protocols and contributing new ideas for new research projects. You will also manage your own academic research and administrative activities. This involves small scale project management, to co-ordinate multiple aspects of work to meet deadlines.
You are required to hold a PhD/DPhil in a relevant discipline and have relevant experience in using contemporary molecular and cellular biology techniques. A background in cardiovascular research would be desirable.
This is a full time appointment on a fixed term contract for 3 years funded by BioMarin and you will be based at the Level 5 West Wing, John Radcliffe Hospital, Headington
