Job Description

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant to work on an ERC-funded project to unpick the causes and consequences of natural variability in the mammalian gut microbiome. The post is fixed-term for 14 months.

The postholder will use quantitative genetic techniques and other statistical approaches to probe how host genetics and environmental factors combine to shape individual variation in the gut microbiome, using an insular population of house mice as a tractable, wild, model system. The post will focus on bioinformatics & data analysis, as a 3-year dataset comprising genetic, host and microbiome information is already in-hand.

Candidates will hold a PhD (or be near to completion) in a relevant subject (e.g. Ecology/Microbiology/Genetics), and have demonstrable experience in quantitative genetics and microbiome science.

The successful candidate will be expected to submit publications to scientific journals, attend and present at conferences, and engage with other researchers that partner on the project.

They will be based at the University of Oxford (Department of Biology) under the supervision of Dr Sarah Knowles.
