An exciting job opportunity at Canterbury City Council within the Corporate Policy and Strategy Team.

In this role you'll be part of a multidisciplinary team, helping to develop the council's strategies and policies, and engaging with our communities to shape the future of Canterbury district.

A salary of 29,172 (pay award for 2025 pending)

About this Policy Officer job:





You'll get involved in a wide variety of projects, including policy development, public consultations and engagement work with our social housing tenants.



The work is fast paced meaning you'll never have a dull moment, and there are plenty of opportunities for training and development.



Here's what you'll get up to:




You'll support the production of the council's policies and strategies, such as the new Local Plan and the Climate Change Action Plan;

You'll help us to deliver existing strategies and monitor how they're working;

You'll support our tenant engagement activities, to ensure tenant voices continue to influence changes to our housing services;

You'll help us deliver effective consultation and engagement with our communities and key stakeholders on a variety of projects and proposals.

Working pattern:


Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays

Flexible working arrangements, including working from home / remote working

Permanent contract, 37 hours per week


About you, the ideal candidate for the job:




Your knowledge:


An understanding of how polices and strategies are developed

An understanding of how community engagement can help to influence decision making
Your skills:


the ability to analyse technical information to produce clear and effective recommendations

the ability to work flexibly across the team to manage different projects and deadlines


Your experience:


experience of analysing data and producing written reports
