About the role

Great Britain\'s electricity system is undergoing an ambitious, exciting and vital transformation. Together with industry, we are creating a cleaner, greener system, one that protects the planet and serves generations to come.

You will be based within the Customer Connections Team at ESO that manages the connection of major new generation and demand to Great Britain\'s high voltage electricity network. You\'ll therefore be at the forefront of helping Great Britain transition rapidly towards a zero-carbon future that can deliver our climate change goals.

You will act as a primary point of contact to develop, champion and implement electricity code changes that will impact the Customer Connections Team. You will be responsible for managing relationships with key internal and external stakeholders including industry groups, understanding challenges within the industry to drive changes and improvement to Policies, Codes and Legislation which impact the Customer Connections Team.

Becoming the Energy Future System Operator

As you may have seen the Government and Ofgem have asked the ESO to take on new roles and responsibilities

Becoming the Energy Future System Operator is a critical step to help deliver a reliable and clean energy transition for all. The ESO, including all of its existing roles, will be at the heart of the new Future System Operator, taking on additional roles with a whole energy system mindset to drive progress towards net zero while maintaining energy security and minimising costs for consumers.

The new organisation will be set up as a public corporation with operational independence from government - bringing parties together to support optimised decision making and action. As now, it will be licenced and regulated by Ofgem through price control agreements. It is anticipated that the new organisation will be up and running by or in 2024.

What you\'ll get

A competitive salary between \xc2\xa349000-\xc2\xa360000 dependent on capability.

Key Accountabilities

Being main point of contact within the Customer Connections Team for Industry code changes and policy changes required for connections:
  • Main representative for the Connections Team at internal and external working groups (e.g. Code Panels / Workgroups).
  • Support with specific code changes related to governance and represent National Grid ESO at industry code governance meetings.
  • Manage customer queries in relation to policy code changes to the Customer Connections Team.
  • Engage with the external Transmission Owners (the companies who build and own the assets) and internal ESO colleagues throughout the policy/ code change process.
  • Engage with external stakeholders and Customers to enable further understanding of issues with the current process and where the changes need to be made
  • Develop and implement improvements in both internal and external code processes to deliver the most valuable service for our stakeholders.
  • Develop a good understanding of other areas within the National Grid ESO business in order to understand code modifications and how they impact other teams.
What you\'ll need

Expertise in at least one of the following areas:
  • Policy development in a commercial or regulatory environment
  • Project management
  • Process improvement
Desirable (but not essential)
  • Knowledge of the GB electricity system
  • Knowledge of arrangements for connecting major generation and demand to the network
