Policing Data Analyst (global Data Fellow)

Edinburgh, United Kingdom

Job Description

Full Time - 35 Hours per week (1 FTE)

Fixed Term until 30th April 2025

Child sexual exploitation and abuse (CSEA) is a global problem that requires a global response. However, the lack of reliable and comprehensive data relating to CSEA is a major inhibitor to developing more effective and evidence driven prevention and response strategies and policies. Childlight, has been established, and embedded within the University of Edinburgh, to take a data driven, evidence-based approach to better understand the prevalence and nature of CSEA globally. This data and analysis will be used by policy makers and practitioners across the world to make better informed decisions to safeguard children from CSEA.

The Opportunity:

We are looking for a Policing Data Analyst (Global Data Fellow). The Policing Data Analyst is responsible for being a focal point for law enforcement data relationships and developing analyses and reviews with the ultimate goal of improving prevention and safeguarding for children from CSEA globally.

You will join a cadre of global fellows at all career stages to further specific aspects of Childlight\'s research. Specifically, the post-holder will be responsible for engaging with law enforcement and other security professionals, both in the UK and internationally, to conduct research on CSEA nature and prevalence with law enforcement data. This can include working within law enforcement research environments as well as analysing openly accessible crime data. You will provide analytical support and insight, building research relationships and engaging in strategic data analysis. This will include responsibility for researchers, PhD and postdoctoral students working alongside law enforcement and security partners.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • PhD in criminology, social sciences, child protection, or other related field OR significant experience as a police/law enforcement data analyst
  • Experience of conducting data analysis with law enforcement held data
  • Experience of mentoring junior colleagues and/or students around data analysis
  • Experience of using law enforcement data to write strategic assessments
  • A passion for making the world a better place and preventing CSEA, improving services and safeguarding children
This post is advertised as full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.
