Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Platform Engineer with existing SC clearance to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for deploying, maintaining and enhancing our virtualisation and server estate.
Duties
Build, configure, and support VMware's VCF virtual infrastructure including ESXi hosts, vCenter, vSAN, and NSX and the Aria Operations and Avi Load balancer elements
Deploy, manage and maintain Microsoft Windows Server environments (2016/2019/2022), including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and Group Policy and application servers (both Microsoft and 3 Party Software)
Perform capacity planning, performance tuning, and health monitoring of virtual and physical infrastructure.
Plan and execute patching, upgrades, and lifecycle management of VMware and Windows platforms.
Manage multiple PKI (CA) services and certificate lifecycle management from these.
Provide 3rd line support for complex incidents and problems related to virtualisation and Wintel platforms.
Work with security teams to implement hardening, compliance standards, and vulnerability remediation.
Automate routine operational tasks as Infrastructure as Code , e.g. PowerShell, CLI tools, or orchestration platforms
Support establishing and maintaining backup and disaster recovery processes for new and existing services.
Maintain detailed documentation of architecture, configurations, procedures, and change management records.
Experience
Highly experienced with Virtual Infrastructure deployments, operational lifecycle management and migrations (VCF, ESXi, vCenter, Aria, NSX).
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and core infrastructure services. (DNS, NTP WSUS etc.)
Extensive Experience in managing Active Directory, Group Policy, and Domain Services.
Highly proficient administering in other key Windows Server Roles particularly AD Federation Services (SAML, OpenID, Oath2), Certificate Services PKI (multi-tier PKI trust chains) including HSM backed Certificate Authorities.
Proficiency with PowerShell scripting for automation and administration.
Good understanding of storage and networking in virtual environments.
Experience with system patching and vulnerability remediation tools and building, maintaining hardened Operating Systems in-line with CIS, NCSC etc. standards.
Experience with public or hybrid cloud integration (e.g., AWS, Azure, VMware Cloud on AWS, Azure Arc).
Skilled in Virtual Desktop and App delivery (VDI) technologies e.g. Horizon Virtual Desktop and Windows Desktop/Client Images.
Experience with third party security and security monitoring tooling for these technologies.
Experience working in air-gapped/disconnected environments and the impact this has to these Technologies.
Familiarity with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, DSC) and centralised versioning tooling, e.g. Git, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket etc., to deploy changes to Environments for these technologies.
Knowledge of backup/recovery business continuity and DR tooling and in multi-site virtual environments.
Understanding of ITIL processes and enterprise support models.
