Job Description
We\xe2\x80\x99re searching for a Plant Nursery Manager to join a busy online plant nursery business, based near Castle Cary, Somerset.
What you will do
This is an excellent opportunity to be part of the company\'s management team. As the new Plant Nursery Manager you\'ll need to demonstrate excellent communication and collaboration skills, working closely with the directors and other line managers. You will use your commercial awareness to take an active role within the management group, generating new ideas, and leading in their strategy and execution
- Maintain records on the growing operation.
- Train and supervise team members in polytunnel operations and in proper horticultural methods and techniques of growing.
- Manage plant growing programmes and synchronised plant delivery.
- Propagation and management of horticultural crops from seed (sweet peas, cosmos, herbs etc.) and cuttings (jasmine, clematis etc.)
- Improve efficiencies, lower costs, and improve plant quality.
- New product recommendations
The right candidate will need professional horticultural experience and training as a commercial grower.
- Good experience and training in protected growing (polytunnels), soft (and top) fruit, and hardy nursery stock.
- Experience and knowledge of growing potted plants and nursery stock outdoors.
- Scientific understanding of plant health and culture and experience in commercial nursery/growing.
- People management skills.
- PA1 and PA6 certificates
- Driving licence
