Who we're looking for:
We are looking for skilled Plant Fitters with solid hands-on experience in both mobile and static heavy plant equipment. This role involves fault diagnosis, mechanical repairs, and preventative maintenance across a broad range of the groups' plant assets whether that's vehicles in the workshop or out on site.
What you'll be responsible for:
As a Plant Fitter at DEG Workshop, you will be part of a skilled and dedicated team responsible for maintaining and repairing the group's fleet of mobile and static plant equipment. Working for DEG Workshop, you'll play a key role in ensuring machinery is operating safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. This is a hands-on position suited to someone who takes pride in quality workmanship, thrives in a team environment, and has a solid background in plant maintenance and diagnostics. Your key responsibilities will include:
Diagnose and repair mobile (excavators, dumpers, dozers, crushers, screens, trommels, shredders & demolition attachments) and static plant (washplants, waste plants, crushers & screeners) in both workshop and on-site settings.
Perform routine servicing and preventative maintenance as per manufacturer and company guidelines.
Provide feedback and assessments as required to the Workshop Manager & Director on machinery condition and misuse.
Carry out vehicle and machinery diagnostics using a range of tools and equipment
Attend breakdowns on Dauson sites and carry out efficient on-site repairs.
Conduct inspections to assess condition, compliance, and wear & tear of plant equipment.
Interpret manuals, schematics, and technical drawings to support repairs and servicing.
Keep accurate service records and job sheets for all work completed.
Undertake TIG & ARC welding for repair and fabrication work as required.
Follow safety procedures in the workshop and on-site, ensuring PPE and protocols are adhered to.
The Person - Essential
Recognised trade qualification (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Plant Maintenance / Heavy Vehicle Mechanics)
Demonstrated experience with both static and mobile plant machinery
Excellent mechanical, hydraulic, and fault-finding skills
Experience with burning gear and MIG & ARC welding
Familiarity with a range of plant brands (e.g., JCB, CAT, Komatsu, Volvo, Hitachi, etc.)
Full UK driving licence (HGV/LGV an advantage)
Forklift, CSCS, or other relevant tickets preferred
Positive attitude and commitment to working safely and efficiently
