Job Description

A Local Authority in West Surrey is currently seeking a Planning Legal Specialist to join the on a contract basis initially until the end of October.

The main purpose of this role is to:

• Provide legal advice and support to the Borough Council, its officers, employees, and councillors in relation to planning matters.
• Support to the Senior Legal Specialist with regard to the conduct of legal planning case work.
• Attend planning committees and meetings as may be required by the nature of the work.

Main Responsibilities will include:

• Undertake individual case work of planning matters.
• Negotiate, draft, and complete all types of planning documentation including but not limited to section 106 agreements and enforcement notices as may be required from time to time in connection with the Council\'s planning and regulatory functions.
• Attend the Council\'s Planning Committee as required as the Council\'s Legal Adviser.
• Assist with management of the Trainee Solicitor and Legal Apprentice and junior members of the team as required.
• Advise on local government law and governance issues as requested and as they arise on the postholders cases. To assist in draft reports, review, comment on and prepare legal implications for reports to the Council, its Executive, full Council, other Council committees and other Officer/Member level meetings.
• Keep up to date with developments in the areas of law and provide that information to relevant senior Council Officers and members of the Legal Services\' Team as necessary, including provision of formal training.
