3 months contracts with Local government Job Summary:
To support the Senior Planning Lawyer in ensuring that the Council receives cost effective high-quality planning & environmental related legal advice, and in providing an advisory, litigation and advocacy service.
To take on other duties (depending on experience and grade of appointment) as allocated by the Senior Planning Lawyer including planning and highways agreements, planning enforcement, planning litigation and attendance at the Council\xe2\x80\x99s planning applications committee.
To ensure that all such work is carried out to the requirements of relevant clients and to appropriate professional standards.
Key Duties (Sample):
To undertake all work including amongst other matters, contentious and non-contentious areas of planning, planning and highways agreements, planning and enforcement appeals and inquiries, certificates of lawful development, building control, bylaws, tree preservation and other notices and orders, advertisements, general planning and environmental advice as required by the Senior Planning Lawyer to the appropriate professional standards.
To prepare (and where appropriate negotiate) contracts, agreements, deeds, orders, notices, statements and other documentation.
Assist in the development of policy, procedures and good practice.
To provide legal advice to committees, sub-committees and working parties and to write reports to such bodies or provide legal advice on such reports as required by the Senior Planning Lawyer from time to time.
To provide advice to the Council on changes in legislation and case law that may have an impact on the Council and to keep up to date with new and proposed legislation, new cases and other developments which may have an impact on the Council.
To undertake tasks and projects as allocated by the Senior Planning Lawyer in accordance with instructions.
To undertake a range of planning law advisory and litigation work including more complex cases than those associated with Level One.
To prepare S106 and S278 agreements/undertakings and deeds of variation including those relating to larger scale schemes that are more complex than those associated with Level One.
To show an awareness of the Council\xe2\x80\x99s Constitutional and decision-making processes.
When required to supervise Trainees and other staff who may be assigned to the team from time to time.
To advise on all aspects of planning law including development management, planning policy and planning enforcement.
To conduct the complex planning litigation across the full range of civil and criminal courts and the higher courts and including judicial reviews and planning statutory reviews, prosecutions and confiscation proceedings including those relating to high profile developments.
To advise on the conduct of planning appeals including reviewing draft statements of case/common ground and proofs of evidence.
Essential Experience Required:
Relevant post qualification experience working as a solicitor / barrister/ FILEX in the field of planning law including relevant litigation, preferably in local government.
