The University of Northampton and Northamptonshire Sport are pleased to offer a fully funded studentship, for full-time on-site PhD study. The PhD project will be focused on developing the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance of nutrition education within the Northamptonshire Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme. The delivery of nutrition education by HAF providers has been inconsistent nationally (Round et al., 2022) and locally, and parent outcomes expected by the Government have been challenging to meet. Therefore, research is required to support the development of a more robust nutrition education service within the Northamptonshire HAF programme.
The structure of the PhD is predominantly set however, applicants should develop a 1000-word proposal for a PhD project to assess their suitability for the position. The proposal should be included with the application: guidance on writing a proposal can be found here. The proposal should address the project aim: Identify providers\' and families\' priority activities that could increase the reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation and maintenance of nutrition education within the Holiday Activities and Food Programme, to attain the HAF programme\'s aims of 1) receiving healthy and nutritious meals, 2) developing a greater understanding of food, nutrition and other health-related issues, and 3) providing opportunities [for families] to get involved in cookery classes.
