Lifestyle Peer Support Worker with previous experience working with adults with Mental Health support needs, excellent communication and organisational skills is required to join our team at Rethink Mental Illness in a field-based role covering East Cornwall.SALARY: \xc2\xa323,000 - \xc2\xa325,000 pro rata + Excellent BenefitsLOCATION: Field Based role covering East Cornwall with admin duties based at Bodmin Hospital (there may be opportunities for remote working)JOB TYPE: Full-Time, Fixed Term Contract until 4 April 2025WORKING HOURS: 35 hours per weekPlease note: Full driving licence, access to and use of a vehicle is essential in order to travel independently across the geographical area (East Cornwall) for business purposesJOB OVERVIEWWe have a fantastic new job opportunity for a Lifestyle Peer Support Worker with previous experience working with adults with Mental Health support needs, excellent communication and organisational skills.As the Lifestyle Peer Support Worker you will form an important role in the community rehabilitation service to promote healthier and happier lifestyles among people with severe mental illness and their carers.Working as the Lifestyle Peer Support Worker you will work alongside a Lifestyle support worker and directly with the therapy team, to proactively engage with the clients to offer a wide range of activities that will aim to improve quality of life.DUTIESYour duties as the Lifestyle Peer Support Worker will include:

  • Establish a supportive and respectful relationship with service users, sharing own narratives to raise aspirations to access opportunities
  • Work with the Therapy team and the Lifestyle Support Workers to identify and develop activities that promote a healthier happier lifestyle
  • Support the development and delivery of Community Mental Health Services across the trust
  • Take part in making Trust communication (including being in photos and short videos about the organisation\xe2\x80\x99s services)
  • Support service users in developing in other areas and skills
  • Share experiences of using the mental health services with staff, carers, friends and family of service users
  • Ensure that service user\xe2\x80\x99s peer recovery goals are integrated into the Trust\xe2\x80\x99s care plan and are reviewed on a regular basis with care co-ordinators as necessary
  • To attend and participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings
  • Be involved in recruitment processes, including supporting with interviews and local induction programmes
  • Work under the regular supervision of the team supervisor and guidance of other professional colleagues
  • Participate within Trust peer training and monthly meetings with the peer support working networks
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS
  • Lived experience of mental health illness and the willingness to share elements of your personal journey in a boundaried approach, to inspire others and to work in a relatable way
  • Transferable life experience to apply to this role, understanding the challenges which co-exist alongside common mental health illnesses
  • Completion of own wellness plan (there is no expectation for this to be shared outside of direct line management)
  • Understanding of a strengths-based approach to reframe challenges as opportunities for finding new solutions
  • Commitment to equal opportunity. Understanding the difficulties of working with discrimination
  • Understanding of the value of work and the vocational needs of clients
  • Good educational background (GSCE English and Maths equivalent)
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and organise. Ability to work under own initiative
  • Good computer skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Full driving licence, access to and use of a vehicle. These are field-based roles covering East Cornwall. Access to own transport and the means to travel independently across the geographical area for business purposes is essential
