Payroll Lead

Purpose:



To lead the accurate and timely processing of payroll for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and contributing to employee financial well-being.


Responsibilities:



Manage the end-to-end payroll process for NI and ROI, ensuring accurate and timely payments. Oversee the review and processing of payrolls, guaranteeing adherence to strict deadlines. Validate and authorize payment files (BACs/SEPA) for bank submission. Coordinate with the Compensation & Benefits team to accurately implement payroll changes. Ensure accurate processing of payroll-related payments to third parties. Review and validate employee master data changes impacting payroll. Monitor payroll journals, prepare entries, and perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations. Manage and reconcile RTI submissions to HMRC and payments to Irish Revenue. Reconcile payroll journals and source data to the payroll accounts in the P&L. Maintain strong internal controls and ensure compliance with the Internal Control Framework. Serve as the primary contact for employee payroll queries, collaborating with HR, BSS, Group, and BSO teams. Partner with Rewards on payroll insights for business planning, variance analysis, and quarterly reviews. Collaborate with the external SAP consultant on system projects, upgrades, and issue resolution. Lead payroll system testing for legislative updates and system upgrades. Ensure accurate processing of benefits in kind (BIK) and manage share-related reporting and processing. Prepare and submit accurate year-end information to government bodies and employees. Coordinate payroll requirements for internal and external audits. Drive continuous improvement in payroll processes and ensure knowledge sharing within the team. Stay informed about changes in HR policies and legislation that impact payroll. Lead payroll-related projects and change initiatives.

Essential Criteria:



3rd level qualification in a business-related field or equivalent payroll experience. Minimum of 5 years of payroll processing experience. In-depth knowledge of NI and ROI PAYE tax legislation. Proven ability to work independently, manage priorities, and meet tight deadlines. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills. Demonstrated experience in process improvement and change management. High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality.

Desirable Criteria:

CIPD Qualified Experience of SAP Payroll System Experience working within an FMCG company
