An exciting opportunity has arisen in the Pathology IT team at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust for an experienced Systems Administrator to support Transfusion IT systems across both Sutton and Chelsea sites. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates who have a health professional background and understand the requirements of Blood Transfusion service and legislation.
The post will require business analysis, project management, troubleshooting, incident & problem management, integration and system configuration skills. It would also be beneficial for the post holder to have experience of end user training.
The role requires working closely with the clinical and scientific transfusion teams. There will be an expectation for the post holder to be able to work autonomously.
The post holder will have the opportunity to develop a wider experience of IT systems as support and training will be provided to support other IT systems across Pathology, including the management of service critical IT applications.
The post holder will be the system administrator and primary support specialist of the Blood Transfusion Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and for the electronic blood tracking system. These systems are intended to support laboratory processes, and clinical transfusion including pre transfusion sample management, fridge and cold chain management, and administration of blood components including the traceability of components. This is a key role in the implementation and maintenance of the Transfusion LIMS and blood tracking systems which will involve understanding business needs and translating these into system solutions and delivering end user training and support.
The post holder will participate in on-going configuration of the systems to meet the demands of a fast-changing clinical area. They will be expected to extract and manipulate data as required by the department, the wider Trust and external bodies. The post holder will be a point of contact for matters relating to information and technology solutions for Transfusion including fault finding, system configuration, activity and information reporting, and end user training management and delivery.

To understand the Transfusion and blood tracking system requirements particularly in relation to compliance with the Blood Safety and Quality Regulations (BSQR, 2005) and propose system solutions where possible.
To maintain a good working knowledge of the system administration.
To have a working knowledge of computer equipment and systems and to provide first line support for these items where appropriate. This will include a variety of PCs, label printers, mobile devices and other computer peripherals as well any other integrated systems to blood tracking. To escalate to Trust IT or suppliers as appropriate.
