Part Time Support Worker

Braintree, ENG, GB, United Kingdom

Job Description

Daytime support and companionship for Mr H, typically between 9.30 and 16.30 Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays for 18-20 hours per week.

Staff provide support with personal care, mobility, food preparation and household tasks. An important part of the role is engaging Mr H in communication, social and leisure activities during the day, both at home and in the community.

About Mr H

Mr H is a caring family man who suffered a traumatic brain injury 25 years ago. This left him with complex medical conditions and needing additional support with daily living tasks. Despite significant challenges, he has always been determined to improve and be as independent as possible. He develops very positive relationships with those who help him and appreciates their sensitive support. His wife is his main carer, who also manages her own business as an education professional, working mostly from home.

Mr H's mobility fluctuates from day to day. At home, he can walk short distances with supervision using a wheeled walker, while outdoors he mostly uses a wheelchair. He has reduced balance and is at risk of falls. An emergency lifting cushion is available to help him return to standing after a fall. He has a through floor lift to access the upstairs of the house and a level access shower room. He requires some assistance to shower and dress.

Mr H has cognitive difficulties affecting his judgement and decision making, so requires discreet supervision which is sympathetic to his needs in the moment. He tires easily and sometimes needs to rest during the day. He has impaired speech and difficulty finding words but is generally able to make his needs known. He understands most of what is said to him and retains his hugely dry sense of humour.

Mr H enjoys company to watch documentaries and films, listen to music and audiobooks, read newspapers and magazines, and do jigsaw puzzles. He loves music and enjoys going to concerts and visiting local places of interest. He is interested in Formula 1 and is fascinated by transport and the work of the emergency services. He is very proud of his adult children and loves spending time with his family.
