Inspire potential. Support progress. Make every day count.
Are you a compassionate and motivated individual looking for a part-time role where you can make a meaningful difference? This exciting opportunity offers the chance to support pupils with additional needs in a specialist school setting, helping them thrive emotionally, socially, and academically.
We are looking for someone who is patient, energetic, and passionate about working with children and young people who require extra support. This part-time role is ideal for someone seeking fulfilling work that fits around other commitments.
The role
As a part-time classroom assistant, you will support pupils with a range of special educational needs, including learning difficulties, communication challenges, autism, and physical disabilities. You'll work alongside teachers and therapists to deliver a tailored curriculum that supports each child's unique learning journey.
Each day brings a variety of rewarding tasks. You might assist a child with using communication aids, support them during sensory activities, or offer gentle guidance during a life skills session. You'll also help to foster positive relationships, promote independence, and create a safe, calm classroom environment.
This is a hands-on role where your contribution will directly impact a child's confidence and progress. Duties will include:
Assisting pupils 1:1 and in small groups
Supporting access to learning through adapted resources and strategies
Encouraging social interaction and emotional self-regulation
Providing personal care where needed, with respect and dignity
Collaborating with staff to implement personalised learning plans
The ideal person
We are looking for someone who is kind, reliable and flexible. Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND is an advantage but not essential. More important is a genuine desire to support and empower pupils who face daily challenges.
You should have:
A calm and encouraging manner
The ability to follow instructions and respond to pupils' needs with sensitivity
A willingness to learn and undergo relevant training
Good teamwork and communication skills
A qualification in childcare, support work, education or health and social care is desirable but not required.
The school
This friendly and inclusive specialist school in Kendal is known for its dedicated staff team, warm atmosphere, and holistic approach to learning, where every pupil is valued and celebrated. Staff work collaboratively to ensure every child is supported to achieve their personal best.
