The Surrey Wellbeing Partnership is a group of twelve charities, including Barnardo\'s, working together to meet the emotional needs of children and young people in Surrey. The Partnership is part of a larger Alliance of organisations, including Surrey and Borders NHS Trust and Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust. The Surrey Wellbeing Partnership aims to provide outstanding services for children and young people in need of emotional support and care.

Barnardo\'s are seeking to recruit a part-time (21 hours a week) experienced Parent Wellbeing Practitioner who share our commitment and vision to develop an outstanding service and embed Barnardo\'s basis and values in all we do. The position sits within the Parent Wellbeing Service which launched on 1st October 2021.

Parent Wellbeing Practitioners hold a caseload of parents or carers and will provide direct and virtual support to the parents of children and young people across Surrey who are experiencing poor wellbeing. Our practitioners will work collaboratively and with a strengths-based approach to support parents to become more confident in supporting their young persons emotional wellbeing and mental health.

The Parent Wellbeing Service operates within a iThrive Framework where choice and shared decision making is fundamental. It is a relational model, and we hold a non-judgmental and trusting relationship between the staff member, children, young people, and parents as crucial to their ongoing wellbeing. You will receive a full induction and training on the Thrive model at the start of your employment.

  • Have knowledge of emotional health and wellbeing, and experience of supporting parents to implement strategies to manage/support their child\'s emotional health and wellbeing.
  • Have a range of project work skills and abilities.
  • Demonstrate the ability to engage and communicate with both parents, children, young people and their families;
  • Have good organisational, numeracy, and literacy skills;
  • Demonstrate empathy, patience, and an open and flexible approach to working with parents;
  • Have experience of delivering one-to-one work or group work with parents/carers or families and take a strengths-based and trauma-informed approach to your work;
  • Recognise the strengths of parents and have experience of working collaboratively with them.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of safeguarding procedures;
  • Enjoy the challenges and rewards of working within a service for children, young people, and their families (parents or carers);
  • Share our commitment to providing an outstanding service and embedding Barnardo\'s basis and values within all we do.
The office base for this role is at our Surrey Wellbeing Hub based in Leatherhead, Surrey. Although the role is office-based, the ability to work from home and willingness to travel around Surrey is essential. In light of the travel that will be required, access to a vehicle a valid driving licence will be essential.

Hours of work will be 9.00am-5.00pm three days a week however there may be a need for some flexibility with the occasional evening session being worked as and when required by the Service. Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band - this ensures that pay progression steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours.
