Most of the teams' work is supporting our insurance teams, usually with matters that involve defending professionals (such as architects, financial advisors, and solicitors) alongside their professional indemnity insurers in the event of a claim, meaning an interest in civil litigation is a must.

The role

The work will include handling some claims, assisting other claims handlers, and supporting with various tasks such as research, review of supplier contracts, preparing slides for Board Meetings, taking notes, and liaising with the Company Secretary. Document and data management and financial analysis is an important aspect of the role. The successful candidate will support with producing bordereau, tracking payments, settlements, execution of documents, maintaining exposure spreadsheets, and supporting with settlement and scenario planning. You will also work closely with the RPC team handling the matters and will have the opportunity to liaise with auditors and reinsurers.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced Paralegal with insurance experience, confident with Excel, and excellent attention to detail and organisation to keep on top of fast-paced developments. Preferably, the successful candidate will start with RPC from June to onboard with us, meet the RPC team, and get to grips with the background of these complex matters.

Paralegal support is integral to our business, and we are keen to provide an environment where you can develop both your legal and business skills.Once you have gained necessary experience and skills, you will have the opportunity to work within legal teams on an informal internal placement basis. Subject to business need, these placements are usually 12 months long, with direct associate supervision, giving you a broad paralegal experience and providing the opportunity to build relationships with people across the firm. There may also be other client secondment opportunities.

At RPC, training and development is important. You will receive bespoke training with an induction built around the client secondment initially. You will also have access to a broad curriculum of firm wide training events, and a buddy to help you settle in. This role also offers the opportunity to train and mentor apprentices and new starters to the team once you've mastered elements of the role and are ready to share your knowledge.

RPC are supportive of qualification through alternative routes and have a funding policy in place for SQE2, Equivalent Means, and CILEx. The Matter Support Paralegal role offers the opportunity for quality qualifying work experience and RPC has seen paralegals in the firm successfully qualify via these routes. The team and firm's growth ambitions also provide opportunity for supervisory positions within the team.

Whilst RPC operates a hybrid working policy, for this client secondment (the first 12 months of the role), the successful candidate will ideally work full-time in the client office in the Bishopsgate area of central London (this may be subject to discussion for the right candidate).
