We have an exciting opportunity for a Paralegal within our Court of Protection & Community Care department supporting Solicitors with health and welfare cases. You will have the opportunity to work in a busy and fast paced environment whilst getting involved in cutting edge legal work.
The team is in a period of growth and Stephensons supports several routes to qualification (including graduate apprenticeships, SQE / LPC and training contracts). There is a clear focus on development of existing staff to progress at Stephensons
The role:
You will work under the supervision of the team to assist in the preparation of cases, including attendance at meetings, court hearings, and face to face meetings with clients in care homes and other care settings.
A period of training at our Wigan office will be required for the successful candidate with the opportunity for home working once the period of training is complete.
What you'll be doing?
Assisting fee earners in progressing cases, including (but not exclusively) preparing instructions to counsel and experts, arranging and attending conferences, undertaking legal research, collating and reviewing evidence, corresponding with clients and other professionals/experts, colleagues and the Legal Aid Agency in order to progress cases efficiently.
Preparation and submission of Legal Aid Applications.
Visiting vulnerable clients in care homes and other settings.
Preparation of court applications.
Attending conferences, meetings, and court hearings with counsel.
Compliance with client care and case management procedures and processes.
Completion of delegated tasks within given timescales.

About You:
First we ask that you have a genuine interest in this area of Law. We will also require a relevant degree or relevant work experience to be considered.
You will also have:
5 GCSE's including English and Maths at C and above.
Current clean full driving licence with access to a car.
Strong written / drafting skills.
Great attention to detail.
Time management / organisational skills, and an ability to work to tight deadlines.
High standard of communication skills including a professional telephone manner.
Great ability to work as part of a team.
Discretion and ability to work in a confidential work environment under pressure.
Ability to identify issues and summarise key points.
